Pete Scott
Pete Scott makes furniture that is well-crafted, beautiful and useful, made to feel at home in their surroundings and enhance everyday spaces. Based in Aberfeldy, Highland Perthshire, Pete is the maker behind Kins Furniture. With a background in Fine Art and furniture making, he combines creativity with traditional and modern craftsmanship to create bespoke freestanding and fitted furniture, alongside a growing collection of small-batch objects. Having trained at Rycotewood College in Oxfordshire and worked in a variety of workshops, Pete brings a broad knowledge of making to each piece, with a focus on simplicity, quality and longevity.
Aesthetic
Pete’s aesthetic is rooted in minimalism, clean lines and a sense of visual lightness. He creates furniture that feels contemporary yet organic, with sculptural forms and considered details. For bespoke fitted furniture, such as wardrobes and kitchens, the aesthetic is often more Shaker-inspired and responsive to the character of the home and the client’s choices. His skills and craftsmanship enable a versatility in his work resulting in beautifully made, life long furniture in different styles from Shaker to Mid-Century.
Practice
Pete’s approach and process of making brings together traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques, allowing him to work in a variety of ways depending on the piece. He enjoys working directly with timber, shaping and manipulating solid wood and slabs, while also incorporating materials such as birch ply, veneers, coloured laminates and linoleum. For added texture and colour, Pete often intentionally scorches the timber to create rich and tactile surfaces.
Pete welcomes commissions of all kinds, working closely and collaboratively with clients to bring ideas from the depths of their imagination to life. Whether it’s a fully formed vision or simply the starting point of an idea, he enjoys developing each piece into something unique. The choice of timber, materials, form and function are all carefully considered, with an emphasis on thoughtful design and a high standard of craftsmanship, resulting in a piece to be loved and cherished for years to come.
