Clare Robinson
Clare Robinson is a watercolour artist and textile designer whose work celebrates the elegance, intricacies, colour, and patterns that are uniquely and gloriously floral. Her ethereal designs can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, from luxury fabrics for home accessories to wall art prints and greeting cards.
With an international career in textiles, Clare has collaborated with a wide variety of organisations, magazines, and interior designers. Since settling in Perthshire, she has partnered with several British heritage brands, creating bespoke artwork for their collections while also developing her own product range, drawing on her expertise in product design.
Alongside her creative practice, Clare now offers wellbeing workshops and art retreats across the UK. Often set in inspiring garden environments, these experiences invite participants to connect with nature and explore their creativity in rich botanical surroundings.
Aesthetic
Flowers have long been a source of inspiration for Clare, reflected in the way she captures their delicacy through her hand-drawn, painterly style. Her loose watercolour work beautifully conveys both the subtle and vivid colours found in nature, while also suggesting a gentle sense of movement.
Blending a contemporary perspective with timeless elegance, her style feels both fresh and enduring.
Practice
Clare’s process begins with observing and painting flowers through the changing seasons, always working from life. Using watercolour sketching and illustration, she develops her expressive designs, sometimes on a large scale, to achieve her signature loose, fluid style.
These original paintings and drawings are then carefully translated and digitised, allowing the artwork to evolve into stationery, art prints, and textiles. Working closely with British suppliers and manufacturers, she places a strong emphasis on using natural fabrics, creating bespoke homewares and interior pieces that retain the character of the original hand-painted work.
With extensive teaching experience, Clare leads watercolour workshops and wellbeing events, and regularly collaborates with health charities. Through this work, she shares the restorative power of creativity, highlighting how therapeutic art practices can support gentle rehabilitation and recovery.
