Artful Connections

Textile artist and author Clare Hunter's recently published book Making Matters, highlights that the true value of creating something is not just about what is made, but why it was made, and the

connections that others have with certain pieces. This sentiment immediately echoed the reasons many visitors at our recent Summer Exhibition chose particular artworks to take home. We loved hearing these personal connections being shared as they made their purchases.

Karl Macrae’s ‘Tay Street 1’ was bought as a reminder of a much loved daily glimpse of Perth enjoyed for 30 years, before moving away from the city.  Sabrin Miller’s print ‘The Clootie Dumpling’ was bought as a loving memory connection to a family member, and Wendy Farquharson’s ‘The Flowers & The Birch - Moncreiffe Hill Perthshire’ was bought to be enjoyed each morning before the day begins!

The Artisans have their own reasons for creating these pieces and in addition to the purchasers personal connections, each handmade piece also carries it's own unique story, who created it, how it was made, and where it originated. At Perthshire Artisans, we value storytelling and love offering a glimpse into each Artisan’s creative world. Every artist or maker who joins our platform is introduced through an individual profile page, sharing deeper insights into their practice and their work.

A handmade purchase is often guided by an intimate thought process which, combined with the care, craftsmanship, and originality of the Artisan, creates a new story with every piece.
