Two Perthshire rurally based micro-businesses recently collaborated to bring a unique creative learning experience to life. It was exciting when Perthshire Artisan and mosaic artist Katy Galbraith joined forces with Beverly Wainwright, owner of the recently established Comrie Art Hut at Comrie Croft, to offer a weekend mosaic workshop at the end of October. Highly successful and enjoyed by everyone taking part, there are plans for more in 2025.

Their creative collaboration provided participants with the perfect mix of inspiration, skill sharing, learning, laughter, tea, refreshments and a unique piece of their own mosaic art to take home.
Running workshops is a lovely way to enjoy sharing years of creative learning, skills and knowledge and teaching a group of willing participants is both rewarding and enjoyable. It's even more fun when the workshop is hosted in a creative and quirky environment, like the Comrie Art Hut, with a caring host to ensure you enjoy every element of the experience.
Participants enjoying learning the art of making mosaic art
Katy created the 2-day workshop to suit beginners, improvers and curious crafters, with the main aims of both learning and having fun. Re-using existing materials is at the core of Katy's creative practice, and she provided the materials including unwanted ceramics and crockery, tiles, and glass. Participants were equally welcome to bring their own materials to create an artwork which had some personal meaning to them. Everyone created very individual pieces of mosaic suitable for indoor display.
Participants clearly had a fabulous and uplifiting experience, loving the opportunity to be inspired, learn a creative skill and enjoy the great setting provided by The Comrie Art Hut, with several glowing reviews including this one:
Fabulous weekend doing a mosaic workshop at Comrie Art Hut. Katy was very inspirational and patient. Beverly was the perfect host, kept us well hydrated and nourished. Facilities excellent & highly recommend! Thanks!
Joyful artworks and happy participants, all created in a weekend!
Katy really enjoys sharing her love of mosaics and said: It was such a creative weekend, with the participants getting to learn the techniques of using the tools and the placement of the ‘tesserae’ to create their own personal mosaic from upcycled materials. It always amazes me that there can be such a variety of artworks made from the same pile of discarded crockery and tiles!  Great fun and very rewarding for me!
Founder of the Comrie Art Hut, Beverly commented that: It has been fantastic to work with Katy over the weekend to provide a relaxed and fun mosaic workshop. Katy is a true professional who gently guided the students throughout the weekend, she provided really clear instructions which enabled the students to progress and achieve great results.
Everyone went home with fabulous, individual mosaics. Several students were asking about the next workshop dates! The Art Hut is a great space for small group creative classes. I enjoy hosting the students who can be sure of a warm welcome. I provide all of the background work and admin to ensure the classes run smoothly and so that the tutor can concentrate on what they do best!
