Rachel Hendry

Rachel handcrafts floral infused natural aromatherapy soy candles, wax melts and collaborative body care products in small batches - under her Comrie-based company name, Scents of the Wild. Her one aim is to help people harness the therapeutic benefits of pure, high quality essential oils and bringing them closer to the restorative power of nature.

Rachel draws on her knowledge as a student of professional aromatherapy and her passion for the natural world for inspiration. She sources many of the colourful botanicals from her own garden and the local surrounding wild landscape in Glen Lednock, to create her 100% natural range of products.

Aesthetic

From the earthy apothecary-style amber glass jars to the colourful dried flower petals Rachel uses to decorate her candles and wax melts, every element of her products celebrates the beauty of the natural world. Rachel aims to harness the calming, soothing, and uplifting impact that nature’s aromatic and colourful botanicals have on our mood and emotions. For instance, botanicals with soothing blues, greens, and earthy tones are used to decorate her calming aromatherapy candles and wax melts, and cheerful oranges, yellows, and pinks are chosen to compliment her uplifting scents.

Practice

Scent, aesthetic, and the therapeutic effect are equally important in Rachel’s candle and wax melt making process. Once the botanicals are collected, they are air dried on hanging drying racks for several weeks to remove all moisture. When ready to create her natural scents, Rachel blends pure essential oils and balances scent with the aim of creating a specific mood and emotional benefit.

Because essential oils all interact differently with soy wax and behave differently when burned in a candle (some giving off a stronger and more dominant scent than others), Rachel conducts numerous tests, adjusting and perfecting each blend until achieving the desired scent and mood. As both an animal and nature lover, making products that are 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan, and eco-friendly is non-negotiable. Rachel uses only ethically and sustainably sourced natural soy wax, pure essential oils, and 100% recycled or recyclable materials for packing her products.
