Crocus in a Snowdrift
'Crocus in a Snowdrift' is a one off original mixed media painting on a circular canvas, inspired by a shared memory of a child evacuated from Glasgow during World War 2.
The memory regards the stark contrast of a fearful time, but finding wonder in a perfectly circular well of snow with a singular crocus growing in the middle.
The text included is derived from 'Let there be new flowering', a poem by Lucille Clifton. The text furthers the context in to the wartime story, highlighting how gentleness above all is the goal.
"let there be new flowering
in the fields let the fields
turn mellow for the men
let the men keep tender
through the time let the time
be wrested from the war
let the war be won
let love be
at the end"
Original, unframed mixed media painting, using acrylic paints, polyfiller, charcoal and pencil.
