A Teacup of Memories

We love seeing two Artisans join forces on a creative project, so when we saw Rachel Hendry and Katy Galbraith sharing their collaboration, where Rachel developed her charming range of Teacup Candles with Katy’s support, we couldn’t wait to learn more.

Rachel creates a beautiful range of soy wax candles with fabulous scents, and if you haven’t tried them yet, you’re in for a treat. Choosing a favourite might be the hardest part! Katy is a talented mosaic artist who works with a diverse mix of reclaimed materials, including discarded china.

So, how did the Teacup Candle range come to life? It all began when Rachel’s sister, who works at Strathcarron Hospice, asked her to pour one of her ‘Sweet Serenity’ candles into a teacup that had belonged to their Granny. The request was made as part of the A Collection of Memories project. The idea was to infuse an already cherished item with a floral scent that evoked summer days spent in their Granny’s garden, creating a powerful blend of memory, emotion, and nostalgia.

That Teacup Candle, along with a variety of other meaningful objects, went on to tour several community groups across Forth Valley, sparking rich conversations about how we remember friends and family. People shared stories of their own tea sets - who they drank tea with, who inherited their treasured cups - and for many, it was the beautiful scent that stirred memories, made them smile, and brought comfort while reflecting on loved ones.

Inspired by the heartfelt response to the original teacup candle, Rachel began creating more candles using vintage teacups. Alongside sourcing pre-loved china from charity shops, she connected with fellow Artisan Katy Galbraith, who regularly collects china and crockery for her mosaic art, making their collaboration a natural fit.

Uniquely beautiful and aromatic Teacup Candles from Rachel Hendry

The Teacup Candles have been a big hit, with the first batch selling out quickly. Rachel hopes that once the candle has been enjoyed, the teacup will either be kept as a keepsake or donated back to a charity shop, ready to begin a new chapter in someone else’s home.

Keep an eye on Rachel’s socials (Scents of the Wild) and our shop, we’re hoping there'll be more of these charming Teacup Candles. Each one carries its own story, with many more still to be told. 🌸☕️😍
